Interhedron
Interhedron is built to self-assemble itself through strong inerlocking.
It was designed and tested for a scientific publication.
Behind the Design

Interhedron is Based on a Rhomboidal Dodecahedron with chamfered edges. They can stack in dense formations with a lot of edge overlap.

An interlocking mechanism is designed based on a heavy abstraction of the hind-wing of stink bugs and implemented on the shape edges.
Result


The 3D-printed shapes can form stable structures through inerlocking.

Just by shaking them in a box, Interhedrons will self-assemble.
Credits
Interhedron was a solo project over the course of 6 months as part of an internship at the DMMC-lab of the Internetional Hellenic University. The idea for the project, all designs and models were created by me. Its contents were successfully published. The project was supervised by Prof. Dimitrios Tzetzis and was assited by Savvas Koltsakidis, Thomas Profitiliotis and Emmanouil Tzimtzimis.
